BAND BIO:

Formed in 2011 by singer/guitarist Matt Gaines, A Victim of Good Times started as a fuzzed out ode to the sunny vibes of bands such as The Beach Boys and Dinosaur Jr. The band released The Summer EP with acclaimed producer Will Yip to great reception, selling copies worldwide and gaining major traction in Philadelphia.

The addition of second guitarist Clayton Thomas found the band exploring more multilayered and textural interplay between guitar lines that meandered over original bassist Mike Lebovitz’s focused yet mischievous basslines.

After a rotation of two different drummers, Dan Sagherian joined the lineup and brought his punk and power pop sensibilities to the songwriting via driven drum scores and fill heavy bridge partitions.

This lineup would go on to record A Victim of Good Times’s first full length album The Full Catastrophe. While staying grounded in the good time vibes of The Summer EP, Catastrophe saw the band explore darker territories of introspection and complex songwriting with tracks such as Theme To An 80’s Movie and the haunting Maybe, Sure. The album gained much publicity in the Philadelphia area with significant radio play and television spots.

The final piece to the puzzle was the addition of bassist Andy Krause. Andy joined the band after a small run of bassists didn’t work out. Andy’s experimental tones and approach to basslines rounded out the edge needed for the band’s second and newest full length album More Shallow Than Ever.

If The Full Catastrophe dipped it’s toes into experimental/darker songwriting, More Shallow Than Ever does a full on swan dive. With songs contemplating the narcissism of the “selfie generation” to lament’s on Gaines’s own past battles with anxiety and depression, to the sting of love and youth lost, Shallow explores the ups and down’s of the human condition. It isn’t all pensive as songs like hey! Nobody Calls Chooch a Creep, Man! remind the listener of what the band is all about, having fun sprinkled on your introspection.

Formatted on vinyl, the band will be releasing the album, on all media, on Saturday May 18th, along with a record release show at Kung Fu Necktie in Philadelphia.
